Back to dry California!

Back to dry California!, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

The buckwheat seemed especially crispy after a week and a half in the Rockies and the Berkshires

Canyon Walls

Canyon Walls, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

No sense of scale here but that's probably 500 feet of wall there.

Mammatus

Mammatus, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

There were pretty much thunderstorms every afternoon in Colorado. At one point we were outside and my hair started standing up. (we jumped back into the car)

Penstemon

The high desert still had plenty of flowers.

You could pretty much pee in the river from up here if you wanted to... but that's gross.

Black Canyon from Above

More Black Canyon, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

That's not a little creek, it's the Gunnison River, 1500 feet below and about 50 horizontal feet to the south.

Pretty much the most dramatic canyon I've ever seen

Cottonwood Pass and Storm Clouds 2

This storm was hanging over the pass, and rain was starting to fall. It was COLD too but not quite cold enough for snow.

There was still plenty of snow at this pass, which is over 12,000 feet. Shortly after this point the road turns to dirt.

Nuclear Bomb Thunderstorm

Thunderstorms in Texas look like the apocolypse!

RiverWalk in San Antonio

RiverWalk in San Antonio , originally uploaded by inyopfc.

The RiverWalk in San Antonio was originally some kind of concrete ditch like the LA River but they fixed it up and created a flood bypass and now it looks a bit like Its A Small World, but with beer. It's not a natural riparian habitat but it's a lot nicer than a drainage ditch... and there are also some enormous Bald Cypress trees living along the river.

World Trade Bridge

World Trade Bridge, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

This is a bizarre bridge outside of Laredo, Texas called the World Trade Bridge. I guess if you go up there it somehow leads to Mexico, but odd, since Mexico was about 5 miles away from here. It seemed utterly pointless.

Laredo

Laredo, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

Laredo, Texas, where I visited for work last week. It looks dingier in real life than in this picture. It was also 105 degrees.

Arundo and Mexico

Arundo and Mexico, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

Arundo with Mexico in the background. Notice that the United States has healthier arundo than Mexico. This may be because on the Mexico side there are cows grazing along the river.

Heavy-looking Cumulus

Heavy-looking Cumulus, originally uploaded by inyopfc.

When it is 105 degrees and muggy, these thick-looking clouds feel like they would fall right out of the sky and 'splat' on the ground. Instead, they blew away. This was near Laredo, TX
