This rainy season started with a bang... large thunderstorms in September and October. But then, it just ...fizzled. Most of winter was freakishly hot and dry. Very little rain fell during the winter months.
Then during March, things changed. It got COLD... and somewhat rainy. Snow fell at low elevations, and the march rainfall was near average.
Despite march, we are still between 3 and 4 inches below average in the LA area (this is only in LA - some areas in the northern San Gabriel Mountains are already near average while San Diego is experiencing drought conditions.. and San Francisco has had the second wettest March on record.). A unusually strong late-season storm is predicted on Monday-Wednesday, when it may drop over 2 inches. The wet weather pattern may extend after that.
So will it rain 3.75 inches at USC? Will we end with an 'average' amount of rain for this year? It could go either way. But keep in mind that Southern California is extremely variable.. since 2000, our rainy seasons have had anywhere from 4 to 38 inches of rain.
